European investors are pouring fresh capital into speech-native artificial intelligence, a shift with direct implications for the communication and skills corridor linking Europe to fast-growing emerging markets, including across Africa. Two UK-rooted deals this week — one targeting global spoken-language coaching, the other child speech therapy — show how voice-first AI is moving from research novelty to commercial infrastructure.
Lucida AI eyes new languages and geographies
London-based Lucida AI has closed a €6.1 million ($7 million) seed round, according to EU-Startups. The financing was led by Velocity Capital, with Next Tier Ventures, Look AI Ventures, and a notable cluster of Turkish backers — Bogazici Ventures, Yapı Kredi Frwrd Ventures and Ünlü & Co — also participating. The round follows a €1.09 million pre-seed led by Neo Asset Management, taking total funding to roughly €7.24 million.
