
MTN Promotes Jerry Soko to Eswatini CEO, Leaning on Internal Talent
Africa's largest telecom operator confirms Jerry Soko as permanent CEO of its Eswatini unit, reinforcing a strategy of promoting executives from within.

MTN Group, Africa's largest mobile operator, has confirmed Jerry Soko as the permanent chief executive of its Eswatini subsidiary, a move that takes effect on July 1. According to TechCabal, Soko has served as acting CEO since November 2025, when previous chief executive Wandile Mtshali departed at the close of his contract.
The appointment is the latest signal of how the Johannesburg-headquartered company is building its leadership ranks: by rotating and promoting executives drawn from its own operations across the continent rather than recruiting from outside.
