Anthropic has rolled out Claude Sonnet 5, a mid-tier model that reportedly closes much of the performance gap with the company's higher-end Opus 4.8 while costing significantly less, according to Decrypt.
The release matters for European businesses weighing the economics of deploying advanced AI. Mid-tier models that approach flagship capability at lower price points lower the barrier for startups, developers, and enterprises across the region that need capable systems without paying premium rates. For the Africa–Europe technology corridor specifically, cheaper access to strong reasoning models can broaden adoption among smaller firms that operate on tighter margins.
